George Davis - Biographical Sketch |

|
George Davis, a well-known sculptor and sculpture instructor, has been teaching figurative sculpture from live models in the Dallas area since 1970 and maintains a studio on Floyd Circle in North Dallas. He has been a member of the Texas Sculpture Association since the second year it was formed and has been on the Board of Directors. He began figurative sculpture in Pittsburgh, PA early in the 1960's and continued at the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana, where he also taught silversmithing and jewelry classes. In 1969 George moved to Dallas and learned that there were no sculpture classes or groups that sculpted from live models. In order to pursue his art, he decided to rent studio space in Richardson, and he began teaching in 1970. This was the first sculpture taught from the live nude in the history of the Dallas area. From 1971 to the end of 1973 he taught in North Dallas from an establishment known as Olla Podrida on Coit Road. In January 1974 George left the country for three years and upon returning, he again resumed teaching from a different studio, and has been instructing sculpture classes ever since. |
George Davis' sculpture has been shown in numerous exhibitions and is in many personal collections. He occasionally creates abstract work, which has also won awards. George's most popular commissions, however, are for small one-third scale torsos which are sculpted in three sittings for a very reasonable cost. These torsos are accurate renditions of the subject and are a treasured remembrance. Portraiture and full figures may also be commissioned. "The Studio" - George Davis' Sculpture Studio - is open almost every day and visitors are always welcome. However it is always advisable to call The Studio at 972-437-3250 before coming. |
